If you know anything about Chinese dating sites, you know that they can help you find love and happiness. Sometimes, however, things don’t work out the way you planned. Just ask “Pratt”, an American teen who travelled all the way from Ohio to China to meet a girl only to get jilted upon arrival.
The teen had been chatting up a Chinese girl online for some months and felt a connection to her. He decided to fly more than 7,000 miles to visit her and hopefully explore this romance a bit more. Unfortunately, the feelings weren’t mutual and Pratt ended up drinking himself into a stupor and waking up in a hospital.
We could all learn something from this story: how to properly use Chinese dating sites. When you log into a dating site, there are some basic rules you should always keep in mind, some of which we’ve included below:
- Never use your real name as your user name. This allows you to maintain a level of anonymity if needed. You can always share your real name later on once you’ve established that someone is trustworthy.
- Don’t offer your personal email address, phone number, or home address. This keeps you safe.
- If you decide you would like to meet, make sure you discuss it thoroughly beforehand. Don’t just pack your bags and travel!
- When you do meet in person, always make sure it is in a public place, and always let others know where you are going and who you are meeting.
