Why is it so common to hear that some white men prefer to date Asian women? It turns out that humans might actually be hardwired to desire other races.
Studies have shown that human beings, especially men, might actually be genetically designed to find the faces of other races more attractive. Scientists conducted a study in which white people had a tendency to select people from other races when asked to indicate which faces they found the most appealing.
This same study showed that white men preferred the facial features of Asian women, which lends some credence to the notion that many of them like to date Asian women. Interestingly, white women tended to prefer the faces of black men to those of white or Asian men.
The study, which was conducted by the Department of Psychology at Cardiff University, surveyed both men and women between the ages of 18 and 30. Each participant was shown 600 faces of members of the opposite sex and asked to rate each of them for attractiveness.
Many of the trends that were indicated in the study are apparent in society.
“It will come as no surprise to many that facial attractiveness makes up part of the decision of who we marry,” says Dr. Michael Lewis, the leader of the research project. “And it’s no coincidence that groups perceived as more attractive – black males and Asian females – feature more often in mixed-race marriages.”
